Domain Information

For WHM version 11.38

This feature defines basic settings for a user’s account.

To set up the domain:

  1. Enter the new account’s domain name in the Domainfield.
    • An example of a proper domain: example.com.
    • PICK Important: You can create users with domains that are subdomains of your own. For example, if you wish to create a user account for john, and your domain is example.com, you can create john.example.com.
  2. Enter the new account’s username into the Usernamefield.
    • note Note: The username must consist of between 1 and 8 characters (letters and/or numbers). It cannot start with a number, or the word "test."
  3. Enter the new account’s password into the Password and Re-type Passwordfields.
    • Ensure that the user receives a secure password. You may obtain a secure password by clicking the Password Generator button.
    • The account’s password will be graded on a scale of 100 points. 0 is a weak password, while 100 is a very secure password.
  4. Enter the account’s main contact email address.
  5. Continue to the Package section.

Each user whose account you create can log into cPanel using the username and password you specify here.

Package

For WHM version 11.38

This section of the interface allows you to assign a package to a new account.

A package defines the limitations of the account. For example, it determines how much disk space the new account will be allowed to use or how much information the new account can transfer.

You can use the pull-down menu to assign an existing package. If you are unsure of the limitations that will be assigned by a package, you can run your cursor over the magglass.jpg button to view the package’s configuration.

You can also customize the new account’s package using the Select Options Manually checkbox. When you select this box, a new menu will open, providing access to a series of text boxes where you can define the limitations of an account. These options can be found under the Manual Resource Options heading.

Disk Space Quota (MB) Defines the amount of space on the server’s hard drive the new account will be allowed to use. This option is defined in Megabytes (MB). Make sure to consider what kind of content your user intends to host, as this will greatly affect how much disk space the user will need.
Bandwidth Limit (MB) Defines the amount of information the new account will be allowed to transfer each month. This option is defined in Megabytes (MB). Make sure to consider what kind of content your user intends to host, as this will greatly affect how much bandwidth the user will need.
Max FTP Accounts Defines the maximum number of FTP accounts that the new account will be allowed to have at one time.
Max Email Accounts Defines the maximum number of email accounts that the new account will be allowed to have at one time.
Max Mailing Lists Defines the maximum number of mailing lists that the new account will be able to have at one time. Mailing lists are handled by an application known as Mailman. For more information about Mailman, visit http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/docs.html.
Max SQL Databases Defines the maximum number of MySQL or PostgreSQL databases the new account may have.
Max Sub Domains Defines the maximum number of subdomains for the new account.
Max Parked Domains Defines the maximum number of parked domains for the new account.
Max Addon Domains Defines the maximum number of addon domains for the account.
Maximum Hourly Email by Domain Relayed Defines the maximum number of emails any domain can send per hour. This value defaults to unlimited.
note Note: A value of 0 means unlimited.
Percentage of failed or deferred messages a domain may send per hour Defines the maximum percentage of failed or deferred messages that a domain can send before your server temporarily blocks outgoing mail from that domain. The system examines outgoing and local mail over the past previous to determine whether the domain exceeds the limit. When a domain exceeds the limit, it cannot send mail until the domain no longer exceeds the limit. The default value is unlimited.

Once these options have been defined, you may use the Save manual settings as a Package checkbox to store the new package for later. This checkbox is located under the Package heading. You will need to assign the new package a name in the Package Name field.

Saving the selected options as a new package

If you wish to save the options you have selected as a new package:

 

  1. Click the Save manual settings as a Package checkbox.
  2. Enter a name for the new package in the Package Name field.
  3. Select a feature list from the Feature Listpull-down menu.
    • PICK Remember: Feature lists define which cPanel features the new account's owner is able to access. To edit or create a feature list, you will need to use the WHM Feature Manager.

Next, continue to the Settings section.

Settings

To access all of the options listed below, you will need to click the Select Options Manually checkbox under the Package heading.

 

OptionDescription
Dedicated IP Assigns the new account a static, unchanging IP address that will not be shared with other accounts unless the user specifies an account for which the IP should be shared. This option is ideal for resellers.
  • After clicking the Dedicated IP checkbox, select the IP from the Select the IP Address pull-down menu, or select Auto-Assign to allow the system to assign an IP automatically.
  • This list is populated by unreserved IP addresses. You can read more about reserving IP addresses.

note Note: If you create a package with this option enabled, you will not be able to change this option later.
   
FrontPage Extensions Allows the user to install FrontPage® extensions to the new account.
CGI Access Allows the new account to execute CGI scripts.
Digest Authentication for Web Disk Enables Digest Authentication support for Web Desk access over a clear text or unencrypted connection. This support is required for users with Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, and Windows® 8 operating systems.
note Note: This is only required if your server does not have an SSL certificate signed by a recognized certificate authority.
cPanel Theme The theme for the user's cPanel account.
  • note Note: You should choose x3 for accounts that will host websites, as this is the most current theme.
  • If you intend to make this account a mail server only, you should select x3mail, as this is the most current theme for mail servers.
Locale Select the new account's language using the Locale pull-down menu.


Saving the selected options as a new package

If you wish to save the options you have selected as a new package:

  1. Click the Save manual settings as a Package checkbox under the Package heading.
  2. Enter a name for the new package in the Package Name field.
  3. Select a feature list from the Feature Listpull-down menu.
    • PICK Remember: Feature lists define which cPanel features the new account's owner is able to access. To edit or create a feature list, you will need to use the WHM Feature Manager.

Next, continue to the Reseller Settings section.
